On May 28, 2008, the Alpine Union School District, in conjunction with the Alpine Chamber of Commerce, held an awards dinner for the annual essay contest winners. This year's theme was, What I Like About My School. Forty-two students from kindergarten through eighth grade were honored for their writing on this topic. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members all joined the student winners at a delicious hamburger and hot dog dinner, followed by an awards ceremony where each child read an excerpt from his essay.
